NON-TECHNICAL FOUNDERS & SMALL TEAMS

Senior technical leadership, embedded in your team — without the full-time cost

Hiring a full-time senior CTO in 2026 costs $250-400K all-in and takes 4-6 months to find. Most early-stage and small-market businesses don't need 40 hours a week — they need the right decisions made at the right moments. We embed as your fractional CTO: 4 hours per week guaranteed, plus async availability for urgent calls.

The Problem

Without senior technical leadership, founders make expensive mistakes — wrong vendor choices, wrong architecture decisions, wrong hires. Each one costs months and tens of thousands. Hiring a CTO too early kills runway; hiring too late kills the company.

How it works

Five steps from kickoff to live in production

  1. 01Onboarding (week 1): we map your current stack, team, vendors, and roadmap
  2. 02Weekly cadence: 1-hour strategy call + async availability via Slack and Loom for asynchronous decisions
  3. 03PR review on critical pull requests — your team gets senior input without waiting weeks
  4. 04Vendor and tooling decisions documented — no more 'we're trying X because someone tweeted about it'
  5. 05Quarterly architecture review and roadmap adjustment — we keep you 2-3 quarters ahead of trouble

Frequently asked

What teams ask before signing

How is 4 hours a week enough?

It's enough for the leverage moments — architecture decisions, vendor selection, hiring loop participation, code reviews on critical PRs, escalations. The 36 hours you'd otherwise pay a full-time CTO are spent on tasks that don't need a CTO.

What if I need urgent help between calls?

Slack response within business hours; emergency phone for production incidents. Standard tier includes async; flexible tier prioritizes emergency response.

Will you take equity instead of cash?

Sometimes. Reserved for cases where the company is exceptional and we believe in the founder. Default is cash.

Can you also write code?

Code reviews and architecture, yes. Hands-on coding belongs to your team or to one of our other engagements (Custom Application Development). Mixing the two creates conflicts of interest.

What happens at the end of 12 months?

Either: you hire a full-time CTO (we help you recruit), you continue the engagement, or you transition to advisory cadence (1 hour/month). Most clients continue or convert to month-to-month.

Want to know if this fits your business?

30-minute strategy call. No pitch deck. We map your situation live, tell you whether this engagement fits, and what we'd recommend if it doesn't.
